Document Merge - Merge Codes not Populating
When merging a document using Prevail, you might encounter an issue where the document displays merge codes instead of actual data. This article outlines potential fixes to resolve this problem.
Possible Solutions
Solution 1: Resave the Document in the Document Designer
Resaving the document in the Document Designer can refresh the merge codes and ensure the document is correctly set up to pull data from Prevail.
Open Document Designer:
Launch Prevail and open the Document Designer tool under the Administration menu.
Open the Problematic Document:
Locate and open the document that is displaying merge codes instead of data.
Resave the Document:
Make any minor change to the document (e.g., add a space and then delete it) to ensure the document registers as modified.
Save the document by clicking
Save
in the Document Designer
Attempt the Merge Again:
Try merging the document again to see if the data now appears correctly.
Solution 2: Delete the .pdm File from the Prevail_Server Folder
Deleting the associated .pdm file forces Prevail to recreate it, which can resolve issues with how merge data is applied to the document.
Navigate to the Prevail_Server Folder:
Open File Explorer and navigate to the
Prevail_Server
folder on your server. This can be found under Help → About in Prevail.
Access the Docs Folder:
Within the
Prevail_Server
folder, locate and open theDocs
folder.
Select the Law Type:
Navigate to the specific law type folder where the problematic document is stored.
Locate and Delete the .pdm File:
Find the .pdm file with the same name as the problematic document.
Right-click the .pdm file and select
Delete
.
Reattempt the Merge:
Open Prevail and attempt to merge the document again.
Prevail will recreate the .pdm file, potentially resolving the issue.
