Prevail 10 E-Training*: Related Parties Tree

Located on the left corner of the Matter Tab, the Related Parties Tree is where you will attach any contacts that have anything to do with the case. This could span from referral sources and medical providers, to field offices and opposing counsel.

The Related Parties Tree is not only important for noting who these contacts are and how they relate to the case, but it also will allow you to easily access all of the contact information for related parties. Attaching related parties to this tree is also imperative for documents to be merged as efficiently as possible, pulling from the fields for said parties. For more information on documents and how they relate to populating fields from a matter, see ‘Prevail 10 E-Training*: Document Merge.'

Note: For the purpose of this training, the Related Parties Tree may be shortened to ‘RPT.’

Instructions

  1. From the RPT, click ‘Attach Party’

  2. Enter the party’s first, middle and last name, or Office/Company/Firm in the Search Criteria field.

  3. Click the Binoculars icon or Press Enter

  4. Or use this Alternate method

    1. Use the contact type dropdown to search for a contact type

    2. Check the ‘Display List’ checkbox

    3. A list of all of that contact type will appear.

  5. If the contact exists in your database, click on the desired entry to select it.

    1. If the Contact does not exist, Click ‘New Contact’ to add a new contact entry for the party.

  6. Note: If you are unsure whether you have the correct contact or not, click ‘view’ to view more details on the selected contact.

  7. Click on the matching entry to select it.

  8. In the lower left section, choose where on the tree you want to attach this entry.

  9. Choose how the party relates to the matter from the ‘Attach as type’ drop-down list.

Note: The 'Attach as Type' defaults to the Contact type that you selected for the party you are attaching, but you can change it as needed.

Example: If you set the party up as "SS Claimant" in their Contacts entry, but they are the "Referral Source" in this matter, change the type in the "Attach as Type" drop-down list.

This change will not affect the party's Contacts type; it only changes how the party is attached to this particular matter.

  1. Click ‘Attach’ at the top of the window.
